Subject Tests

Many top level schools require 2 or 3 Subject Tests, in addition to the SAT or ACT scores.  Spring is the typical time when sophomores and juniors usually take Subject tests –the last two times for SAT Subject tests during the academic school are usually the first Saturday of May and June.  Sometimes, students decide to take Subject Tests in the fall of their senior year because they have been very busy taking APs, SATs and ACTs during their junior year. If you are thinking of taking Subject Tests and do not know which tests to take, call us and take a FREE practice test that will help you determine the best strategy for your situation.  It is always recommended to do Subject Tests in areas where your student has strengths, related to the areas of interest and close to the end of the year when the material is fresh.  However, do not worry if you cannot do it then, we can always help you prepare for the upcoming dates in the fall.

APs

AP courses or Advance Placement Classes are offered today in more than 30 disciplines.  Some local high schools in AZ offer these classes after their outstanding and dedicated teachers have presented their syllabi to college level faculty from the College Board at a National Level.  In order for these courses to be labeled AP they need to meet or exceed the criteria of college level work. The culmination of these courses is the AP exams in early May.

AP exams are only offered once a year.  Exam scores range between 1 and 5. Success is usually measured with a score of 3 or higher. According to the College Board, more than 90 percent of four year colleges and universities in the US grant students credit and advanced course placement based on the AP exam results. Which can means that students can either take advanced classes sooner or receive college credits before they enter college. This may also mean that they can save time and money while in college.

If you are taking an AP course and would like some help during the academic year give us a call.  We have special packages that cover the whole year or just at exam time the choice is yours. Thus, give us a call so we can help you develop a program specially designed for your student needs.  We have experts in most areas.  If you are a parent of a future AP student and would like to get an “Introduction to AP” session during the summer, contact us and we will do a 10 hour (one-on-one) intro program for your student that will improve their success rate when school starts.
